Old Town Sarajevo

Parking near Baščaršija

Baščaršija — Sarajevo's Ottoman-era bazaar — is the most visited place in Bosnia, and most of it is pedestrian-only. Street parking around Old Town is scarce and limited to two hours. Private spots in the surrounding neighbourhoods put you a short walk from Sebilj fountain without the circling.

Where to park near Old Town Sarajevo

The streets immediately around Baščaršija fall into Zone 0 of Sarajevo's public parking system: 2 KM per hour with a strict two-hour maximum, paid at parkomat machines. In July and August these spots are effectively always taken.

The practical alternative is a private driveway or gated spot in Kovači, Bistrik, Vratnik or Logavina — residential neighbourhoods on the slopes directly above Old Town. From most of them you can walk down to the bazaar in 5–10 minutes, and owners charge by the hour or by the day with no time limit.

If you are staying overnight in Old Town, ask the owner for a daily rate. Most guesthouses and hotels around Baščaršija have no parking of their own and will point you to the same handful of full public lots.

Tips

Arrive before 10 AM in summer

Tour buses and day-trippers fill every legal spot around Old Town by late morning between June and September.

Two-hour limit in Zone 0

Even if you find a street spot by the bazaar, you must move the car after two hours — fine for coffee, useless for sightseeing.

Park above, walk down

Kovači and Vratnik sit uphill from Baščaršija. Park there, walk downhill to the bazaar, and take it slow on the way back up.
